I interviewed my grandmother and these are the questions I asked her.
What is your full name?
My full name is Norma Karen Mountain.
Where were you born?
I was born in the old hospital in Newcastle.
Where did you live when you were younger?
I lived in Barnettville and once I got married I moved to the Rapids.
Did you have any kids? If so how many?
Yes, I had 3 boys.
What are their names?
My oldest son is named Benny but he passed away when he was 20. My middle son’s name is Randy and my youngest son’s name is Kirby.
Do you have a husband?
Yes I did have a husband but he passed away 4 years ago.
What was his name?
His name was Ralph Mountain
When were you born?
I was born July 1st.
What school did you go to growing up?
I went to the old Blackville school growing up.
What was your job once you got older?
After high school I got a job as a teacher at Blackville School.
How did you get to school?
I would walk to school.
What did you do for fun on the weekends during your teenage years?
During my teenage years on the weekends me and my friends would usually go to whatever dance was going on in Blackville or Miramichi.
Do you thing that the kids today are different compared to kids when you were younger?
In ways yes , I do find kids have changed; they have a lot more things to do these days and a lot more technology now than what we had when we were younger. For entertainment when I was younger we had televisions but not the like the televisions we have today; ours were black and white.
What is your maiden name?
My maiden name was Underhill.
